The first Animania event for the year was Mini-Animania Sydney. It's called 'Mini' because it's a one day event held prior to the two day Sydney Animania convention coming up in September - but this year saw Mini-Animania held at the home of its big sister: the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh. Mini-Animania Sydney has continued to increase in size over the last couple of years, ceasing to be a taster event as such and becoming a convention in its own right - and Mini-Animania has been able to find a very nice balance between being full blown convention and a one-day event.
Animania is an anime convention which takes place several times throughout the year all around Australia and is home to the preliminaries for the World Cosplay Summit. I attended the Melbourne Animania event held on April 10th and talked with Animania executive manager Amanda Setaidi.
The one and only independent comic convention returns. Doujicon has always been a fantastic event where you can find all manner of art and comics from a wealth of Australian artists. This year the event teams up with Minifest (the micro version of Manifest) - but expect there to be something on offer for both anime and non-anime comic and art fans.
